EIGRP is not as peculiar as RIP although it is a hybrid protocol making it somewhat peculiar.

EIGRP like RIP does auto summarization by default, albeit only at the classful boundaries and not at each different prefix/netmask like RIP does.
The updates like with RIP version 2 are sent out to a broadcast address with the difference that EIGRP uses its own...

This is a brief description about RIP as a routing protocol.


Altough RIP is a relative simple protocol compared to for instance OSPF it does have some peculiarities.

RIP version 1 being the older routing protocol didn't have to worry with classless routing and partly
because of this and as a a mean of conserving router memory, automatic route...
