More questions:-
<hide>
1) How the windows licensing works in the VMware enviornment?
2)after the manual vmotion of a two VMs from one esx host to another esx host in a cluster, I am not able to ping one VM, but i am able to ping the second VM?what is the reason behind this.....
3)after the Vmotion of a VM, how does the physical switch knows that the VM is migrated to another esx host and now switch must  send packets to the new esx host's virtual switch on which VM is currently residing?

The person who will give me the right answers to above three question, i will give him a important document on P2V or Data center Migrations, datacenter Consolidation(Depending upon his requirement)

The answers are as follows:
1.How the windows licensing works in the VMware enviornment?
Ans:In case you are using VMware server then for each enterprise license you can use 4 windows instance .For datacenter edition unlimiited no of windows instance can be run.In case its ESXi /ESX then each license for a physical machine will translare to 4 VM's.
2.after the manual vmotion of a two VMs from one esx host to another esx host in a cluster, I am not able to ping one VM, but i am able to ping the second VM?what is the reason behind this....
Ans: there are two reasons that I can think of
1.The uplink on vswitch is not connected to correct vlan
2.Notify switch option is set to no on vswitch
3)after the Vmotion of a VM, how does the physical switch knows that the VM is migrated to another esx host and now switch must  send packets to the new esx host's virtual switch on which VM is currently residing?
Ans After vmotion a Reverse ARP request is send by the host to physical switch to inform about the VM's new location.

Hi Gaurav,

Thanks for attempting the questions.

From the three answers which u have given, only first one is right...
License for each Edition
Standard     per VM   10 VM means 10 license
Enterprise   per VM    10 VM means 3 License(1 enterprise license for 4 VMs)
Datacenter per socket   2 socket means 2 license.Unlimited VM per box

for second answer, you can see that there is no network related error as i am ble to ping one VM after vmotion...for third one, you are too close..

I am still waiting for the right answers and guys u have this week only for giving me the correct answers...

More questions

1. Background process of a P2V operation
2.Architecural differennce between the HA of 4.0 and 5.0
3.How to upgrade ESX 3.5 to ESX 5.0

Hello,

For the second question you never mentioned that both Vm's have same vlan/vswitch so considering the fact that they  have different vlan's and hence very possible that they are attached to different vswitches. So one VM may have no issue while other may have .

For third after RARP request is send by the destination host to physical switch , it updates its table with new switch port location of the migrated VM.

@S0cialW0rker i really like your list for improving my vmware knowledge. i have a small and humble suggestion that instead of a concrete answer a link to the relevant document would help speed up the learning process. If it is ok with you i can try to add links to the question
