Cisco vWLC - Project to crack the licence system

Recommended Posts

Hi everyone,

What if, we could have a Cisco vWLC in our lab for the time we wan't ?

No more 30 days of licensing, unlimited time, houraaaa.

I need help from all of you guys.

The thing is, I know it is crackable, someone I know already did it.

But I don't have the skills to do it.

Someone is up to do this ?

The few things I know :

- We have to extract the initrd and the kernel from the VM.

- Once we did this, extract the initrd.

- The initrd contains the all linux system, in a folder, there is a binary to reverse.

It's not much but it's a start.

Thanks for reading this.

Hope a few will help.

Any luck with this?

I have actually found a strange issue with my vWLC version 7.4.100.0. I have been running this in at home since April 2014 and the license expired 30 days after installation. However nothing ever happened, and I still have full functionality a year later the expiration.

Has anyone else observed this behavior?

If you post a copy of the binary somewhere I will disassemble it and take a look, also have a close friend who is very good at disassembling as well.

I've noticed that whenever I restart the virtual controller, the evaluation license countdown seems to reset??

The WLC uses the same licensing mechanism as recent IOS images (and IPS v7+), which is Safenet Sentinel. I have looked into it very briefly... in order to create your own licenses you will need the Sentinel SDK (includes wlcgen utility) as well as the secret seed information that is specific to Cisco. It's going to be a lot of work :-)

Hi,

Actually, this might not be that hard, but you said it, it's going to be a lot of work.

Some reverse engineering on the file switchdrvr with IDA might just do it. A friend did it.

It's beyond my knowledge though.

See you.

Hi, I'll try to upload that for you.

I'll let you know as soon as it's available.
