freerouter - networking swiss army knife

Recommended Posts

hi,

pleased to announce a stable release of freerouter.

this is a routing daemon that does packet handling itself

so it can do bridging, routing ipv4/ipv6 unicast/multicast,

mpls, vpls, mpls te, mldp, segment routing, and so on...

speaks a lot of routing protocols like rip, ospf, isis, eigrp, bgp, babel...

does a lot of tunneling like gre, ipip, ipsec, l2tp, geneve, vxlan, nvgre...

have a lot of built in servers like dns, http(s), smtp, pop3, telnet, tacacs, radius, ssh...

it can start external images (like xrv or csr1k) in vdcs which could be connected

internally, so various lab topolgies can be easily created.

have a cli that minics cisco's one...

here is a list of features:

Has anyone tested this router software?

hi,

-tsystems sold about 30 physical routers with this software since 2010, most of them are still online.

-niif/hungarnet is using it as primary/secondary fullbgp route reflector for a lot of afis/safis since 2014.

-niif/hungarnet now using it as a sniffer: it terminates pwes from pes and operators can control captures from web.

-an evpn/pbb testbed is deployed between geant and hungarnet, the results will be presented at geant symposium 2016.

-ripe opensource chair also notified and he will carry out conformance tests, will be reported at opensourcerouting.

-and finally, reports started to arrive from individuals who given it a try...

try it out, write your opinion here or by mail and i'll honor it at greeings page:

I haven't got a chance to test it yet, but it looks really impressive!

This is the first free software router (that I'm aware of) which supports eVPNs!

For exmaple - cisco's IOS-XRv doesn't have a data plane for VPLS, EoMPLS, AToM, EVPNs.

Cisco's CSR1000V doesn't support EVPNs eiher.

I'm really eager to test it myself.

Great work guys!

hi,

since then, all 3 flavors of evpn supported: evpn/pbb, evpn/vxlan, evpn/mpls

moreover, i can bridge them together, so a pbb site can talk to a vxlan site, for eg...

regrads,

cs
