VCAP-DCV Deploy

Recommended Posts

I'm planning to do the VCAP-DCV Deploy in 2 weeks. Looking for some resources. Any recommendations , etc ?

I am also preparing Deploy for last 2 months. I scheduled exam for next week.

The best way so far was going through blueprint and public documentation. So far, you should know a lot from VCP exam. This exam is lab based so if you have practical experience it will be easy. The main problem that I am hearing from people that already passed this exam is time, not knowledge, so practice a lot

I spent 6 months training for this exam with a very extensive lab. Not an easy exam but I passed. Time is your enemy as well.

2. create host profile from host and attach it to a cluster + adjusting the profile

3. configure host certificate expiration in vcenter and renew cert

4. configure host password policy

5. find user that killed a VM and delete the user

6. fix vm clone script

7. create VM

8. configure vm template

9. configure VA baseline

10. configure VDP backup job

11. create content library+subscription

12. configure vsan policies

13. unmask LUN, create datastore, add to DS cluster

14. configure HA and VMCP + admission control + isolation address

15. capture packet loss for vm via shell

16. capture storage ATS commands

17. create DVS

18. export DVS

19. network io control setup

20. fix iscsi datastore and setup multipath

21. fix vmotion for a VM + SS portgroup config for vmotion

22. configure vcenter logging options

23. create vm alarm

24. configure SSO domain

25. create sso user and grand sso perm. global permissions and ro permissions on dvs

26. create resource pool and set sharing

27. create custom tcp stack and configure vmkernel port to use it.

The scenarios were similar when i took it two weeks ago ... not exactly the same but similar .. i had an issue with the exam center so i am waiting to get the voucher reissued .. your answer might help me with my preparation.. i will take the exam in a few days

I done the exam at the start of 2017 so I can't recall what questions were asked.

I will say you need to know your stuff and how to perform things quickly.

Fair enough mate, this is not an easy exam and knowing the environment is not nearly enough and you have to be quick on yer feet. First time, three and a half hours felt so inadequate

I passed VCAP6 Deploy 1st time round but as I said, I had an extensive lab at work and studied for 6 months prior to the exam. I think my score was 346.

Have you done 3V0-624 yet?

Nope i wish to finish the 3v0-623 ASAP. i attempted it a couple of weeks ago and the exam center was a disaster and i had issues with screen ( not the usual resolution thing ) and Pearsonvue spent an hour trying to fix it remote. I am fighting with them get another voucher to sit the exam, Design seems easier and there are brain dumps too

3V0-623 is tough. I have seen blogs where people say that studied for up to 8 weeks which I find very hard to believe. There are pdf's available during the exam which I never used. Waste of valuable time. I will sit the 6.5 Design exam in the next 2 weeks.

I passed VCIX6.5 DCV and yes you have PDF documentations but you do not have time to read them. You need to have all required in your fingers, that is the reason people are preparing this exam for 8 weeks. Even I work with VMware since version 2.5 in production, still I stuck on 2 questions that are related to CLI, because i used to work in GUI most of the time. Off course I failed in first attempt, because I spend a lot of time on CLI. When I need CLI, I use documentation to check command ans switches related to that command. This is regular in my day to day work.

However, in this exam they expect that you have all commands in fingers.

Few advices:

  • Lab is pretty slow, so be patient and think in your head what steps you need to use (click) to do the task.
  • If you are not sure how to do some question, jump to next one and write on provided paper with marker what you missed so you can eventually return and spend last minutes trying to solve it.
  • Some questions are fast to resolve, some are very complex.
  • Remember that time is your enemy

  • Some questions 1-3 are related to previous one, so if you do not complete them, you cannot continue with some other.
