IOS XR 9k 64 bit on AMD Ryzen

Recommended Posts

Hi Everyone,

Does any one has knowledge about support of IOS XR 64 bit on AMD Ryzen processors or specifically on AMD Ryzen 3900X?

AMD processors offer cheaper price per Core/Thread, but if they dont run the XR devices  then its not worth the price..

apparently IOS XR 9k  does not boot up and only works on Intel based processor. some information on related link below.

Looks like IOS XR 9k is not supported, however IOS XRv (ligther 32-bit version) is supported, which should be fine for lab purposes. However I don't own AMD CPU, so this information needs to be confirmed.

Do Eve-ng works fine with the above commands for xrvk9 64 bit?

It does work in Eve-ng. Thats where I use it.

Make sure you have this in Qemu options or in the template as permanent fix

-cpu qemu64,+ssse3,+sse4.1,+sse4.2

What is the purpose of running XRv 9K? XRv is not enough for lab purposes?

No XRv version 7, but there is xrv9k with version 7 available. Working with Advance features.

also plain XRV is depricated, only XRV K9 is being continued. However for current Lab v5 plain XRV might be enough though.

But is there any difference in syntax? I guess the commands are the same.

Advance features gets updated as new versions come up. For this forum where most of the people looking for basic features, IOS XRV is fine for most of the people in this forum.

Also since this post was on question about how to run XRV9k on Ryzen processors, I was answering that part of question here.   You may want to start another post on difference between XRV and XRV9k
