  1. Hi folks, some people are telling me that they're able change the internal system reserved VLANs on UCS. I know that's not possible, but I want to make sure with you guys if anybody came across this. You're able to change internal system VLANs on Nexus platforms, like N5k, N7K etc., but you cannot change on FIs. Correct?

    TS1 Statistics

Having followed the posting of the last 23 CCIE candidates who gave feedback the last 6-8 weeks these are the statistics: A) 5/23 Vlan 12 is missing either on the SWs or not allowed on the trunk between them.If OSPF is ok and other things are right it is still possible to ping Server to PC,but the trace will be different 6/23 the access vlan to the clients are missing, the SVI address is wrong or client address is incorrect. C) 5/23 Port-security problem on the switchport facing the server or client D) 4/23 DHCP problem, wrong client-id on the manual dhcp pool(3),wrong default gateway(1) E) 3/23 Was not clear from the feedback 3 tickets had more than one problem, often including port-security and something else so that after fixing the first still pinging was not possible. The last 4-5 feedback stated that vlan12 was the problem Other faults stated in other posts did not appear for at least 2 months. This could be an easy ticket, vlan 12, or difficult involving layer 2,layer 2 security and dhcp that could require multiple fixes to get it right.I did not take the exam yet so this is just a collection of data that could be very useful as a guide to solve it quickly
  3. Hi, Me and my friend is currently setting up a Xen test environment. As you can se from the picture below we are running a Cisco ASA 5505 to reach the network from the outside. But the problem is that we want to reach the virtual pfSense's subnet's through the Cisco AnyConnect VPN. And currently the pfSense's are only configured with a public ip and a virtual interface to the VM's. We could be lazy and do a tunnel to the Cisco from each pfSense. I guess that could be a temporarily solution. Or we could solve this problem by buying another PCI NIC, so that we have a physical link from the "pfSense box" to a tagged VLAN on the switch. But we are having problems configuring the switch to general vlan's. Cause Xen can't have it's management interface on a tagged VLAN directly from the XenServer, but the switch can tag the packet when it reaches the switchport. Does anyone have any idea on how to solve this? I would like to have "switchport general allowed vlan 2" for admin and 10 for "LAN" And then trunk the port to the Cisco ASA. But again, Xen stops me from doing this. Thanks! Regards. Jonher937
  4. I earlier posted the same query in the CCNP Switch forum too, but did not got any reply so thought to post it here Query :- Can the hosts in the same VLANs on switches which are running the different STP versions (PVST+ & 802.1D) will be able to communicate or not... In my diagram (refer attachment) will host A be able to communicate to host B ? I understand that PVST+ switch can map their mutliple STP instances across 8021.D (Refer diagram) to other PVST+ switch using SSTP BPDUs and hence i can say that host B can communicate to host C.. Correct me if i am wrong in this also :-) ??
  5. Friends - on k8 i am configuring vlan assignments and ran into issue with R2/Sw2 and R3/Sw2 connectivity. On IGP it shows R2 side as 172.16.27.2 and SW2 side as 172.16.27.7 for R2/SW2 connection. It also shows 172.16.37.3 for R3 and 172.16.37.7 on SW2 side for R3/SW2 connection. I do not see any vlan 27 or 37 to be created in passing solution. Are we to use "no switchport" and assign layer 3 on these interfaces? I did not see in passing solution so I am confused on requirements for this. Please help clarify. Many thanks.
  6. Hello community, I manage here a network with about 200 devices. I have also configured many vlans for different jobs like WlanAps, every wlan in their own vlan, vlan for our facescanners (to see when people come and go home), of course a management vlan ... and so on. Now we have in our company about 22 printers. They all are networking printers. So my question now is: Should I pack all printers in their own vlan? Is it intelligent to do so? Would that decrease the network traffic and increase the network stability of my network a bit? Only to mention, I don`t have networking troubles in my network. But I am always looking for improvements. Thank you
  7. Hi All, I have small query, may useless, but please clarify... Below is VLAN configuration from SW1 and SW2 SW1 interface Ethernet0/0 switchport access vlan 14 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/1 switchport access vlan 23 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/2 switchport access vlan 23 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/3 switchport access vlan 24 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/0 switchport access vlan 14 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/1 switchport access vlan 15 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/2 switchport access vlan 67 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/3 switchport access vlan 67 switchport mode access duplex auto ! SW2 interface Ethernet0/0 switchport access vlan 15 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/1 switchport access vlan 24 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/2 switchport access vlan 35 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet0/3 switchport access vlan 46 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/0 switchport access vlan 35 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/1 switchport access vlan 57 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/2 switchport access vlan 46 switchport mode access duplex auto ! interface Ethernet1/3 switchport access vlan 57 switchport mode access duplex auto ! Is this configuration is correct? With this configuration all end to end interfaces are reachable. but my confusion is... For example Vlan 14 is available only on SW1 not on SW2... If SW1 is down then no communication for vlan 14... What I feel is all vlan configuration for interface must be identical on both switches!!! Please suggest...

    LAB 2. Q 1.12

I'm looking at Cisco Bee solution and see, that he uses global vlan dot1q tag native command , but Cisco doesn't ask us to tag native vlan in trunks between DC1-N7K-1/DC1-N7K3 and DC1-N7K-2/DC1-N7-4 ... only beetween DC1-N7K-3/DC1-N7K-4. May be it will be better to use switchport trunk native vlan tag command under interface Po200?
  9. Hi everyone, I'm currently working as an IT Intern at a local business and was hoping to get some advice on recommended training. Scenario: Our company is looking upgrade our network by buying Cisco - Series 500 switches. My boss said that he's willing to pay for training that will help me set up, configure, and manage these switches. It will be my job to wire the switches and configure them to support our voice and data networks. My Background Info: I have an understanding of networking devices (switches/patch panels/routers) and what they do, but I don't have much experience setting them up outside of a home environment. I'm a little nervous about setting up these switches and was wondering if you guys could recommend any self-training/online courses that would help. Thanks!! Ps. Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I wasn't exactly sure where to post it.
  10. I am trying to figure out a full proof method to configure vlans switch port and ip add in IOU conifg lab. The first and second section of all labs. For me it is taking most of my time. I do sh cdp nei and sh cdp nei detail on all router and switch and then keep verifying it and changing it. But this method is not fast and error free.
  11. I am getting this error on one of my destribution switch 6/9/2013 8:48 PM : SPANTREE-2-UNBLOCK_CONSIST_PORT 880: 000876: Jun 9 20:48:22.644 IST: %SPANTREE-2-UNBLOCK_CONSIST_PORT: Unblocking Port-channel2 on VLAN0001. Port consistency restored. can any one help

    DHCP question K1

Do you guys understand the dhcp question at k1 lab ?Me got some doubts , At dhcp server different dhcp pools are created dhcp pool0, pool1 , pool2,pool3 At dhcp server pool 0 only domain name and netbios servr ,dns server added. At dhcp pool 1 , 2 , and 3 have differnet default router ip. My question is will dhcp pool1 , 2,3 inherit from Dhcp pool?If yes dhcp pool 0 should inherit from pool1,2,3 too? is it? What if i created pool name with words like dhcp pool name , name 1, name 2 etc ...will this inherit feature avaialble? My next question is How the clients choose appropriate dhcp pool. Each dhcp pool is conifugured with different network ranges like 15.32/27, 15.160/27 , 15.192/27 ( pool1 , pool 2, pool 3) main pool 0 is having 15.0/24 How the clients under vlaan c, h, a,b will choose correct pool? At client side only helper address is configured and which same for all clients , so how they make decision . Any comments will be helpful for us..
